With a Portuguese father and a mother from Mozambique, Mariza grew up from the age of three amidst the many fado pubs in the traditional multicultural Mouraria district. Completely suffused with this melancholy music, it was Mariza who petitioned UNESCO to put fado on the official cultural heritage list in the 2011 – successfully. She has performed with a diversity of artists including José Mercé, Gilberto Gil, Lenny Kravitz and Sting. On her new album, she collaborated with Spanish flamenco producer Javier Limón.
