Back in Belgium Van Hellemont collects his band. With familiar companions Simon Casier (Balthazar, Zimmerman), Laurens Billiet (Zimmerman) and brother Sem Douglas Firs records the new album "Hinges of Luck". For the mix they can count on an enthusiastic Kevin Ratterman, known for his work with My Morning Jacket and Ray Lamontagne, among others. He receives them at his La La Land Recording Studio in Louisville, Kentucky. The road trip that follows brings them to illustrious places in Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans.
Douglas Firs turns out to be a handsome singer-songwriter. With a mix of heartbreaking melancholy, raw roots-rock and honest lyrics, he manages to deeply touch his audience. The new music is about a whole generation that struggles with all the possibilities that are offered to it. Melancholic love songs like Pretty Legs & Things to Do or Caroline from the first albums are now complemented by questions Van Hellemont never asked himself before. How Can You Know?
Last year he already confirmed this at the AB in Brussels, in a whole series of clubs in Belgium, on tour with Triggerfinger and K's Choice through Germany and the Netherlands and during a busy festival summer. After all those wanderings it's now time to play the songs in an intimate, warm setting.
