She stole many a heart with her performances during the Sunday morning concerts in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; her rendition of Rachmaninov's Second, and several years later of his Third Piano Concerto were magnificent. Her recording of ‘Rach 3’ was viewed by nine million admirers. This afternoon’s programme includes Chopin. His four ballads are narrative works filled with water nymphs and peculiar knights looking for silver veils and weasel’s tails. These monumental works for piano by Chopin were inspired by Lithuanian ballads. Russian composer Scriabin continued building on Chopin half a century later.
