Magda Mendes, born and raised in Lisbon, has been based in Rotterdam for the past ten years and has introduced this city to original Lisbaon fado. She toured her programme 'Silencio! fado wandering Rotterdam' to every nook and cranny of this harbour-city, thus reaching a massive audience.

With her album Oliveiras she takes a different turn, leaving the city. In collaboration with Ward Veenstra she wrote new songs giving a voice to stories that seem to have escaped the fire. Stories about her father António Oliveira who seems to be sharing the same roots with the ancient olive trees from his birthplace. About how the people and trees of the region were left without a voice and about how Magda's own roots seem to be pulling at her eversince she left her birthpace. These songs are situated in the countryside of central Portugal, a region that made the news recently because of several forest fires. A forgotten region the history of which is at risk of going up in smoke.

This concert was originally planned to take place on 5 June 2020 but has beeen rescheduled to Sat 25 September 2021 due to the corona pandemic. Ticketholders have been notified.
