Tomatito is the name of artist José Fernández Torres, the flamenco guitarist from Almería, Spain. He has worked with people like the legendary flamenco singer Camarón de la Isla, legend Paco de Lucia and he performed with artists like Frank Sinatra, Elton John, George Benson, Neneh Cherry and John McLaughlin. 

This concert was originally planned to take place on 2 May 2023, but has been rescheduled to 4 May due to changes in the touring schedule. Because this day also marks the remembrance of WWII, a 2-minute silence will take place at 20h00 sharp, prior to the concert.

This guitarist grew up amid the great flamenco guitarists, among who were his father and grandfather, both called Tomate, and his uncle Nino Miguel. Tomatito (literally little tomato) was a sensation from an early age. Alongside accompanying singers and dancers, Tomatito also played solo pieces by Paco de Lucía. It was in those days that he accompanied many great names, like Pansequito, Lebrijano and Paco de Lucía himself.

Camerón de la Isla asked him for accompaniment at a festival in 1973. This was the beginning of an 18-year collaboration, lasting until the death of Camarón in 1992. La Leyenda des Tiempo was one of the hits they shared.

In addition to his making a mix of traditional flamenco and jazz, he was also experimenting with Afro-Cuban and Brasilian styles, which clearly shows on his album Barrio Negro.

Those having had the chance to hear Tomatito don’t ever forget it. He brings flamenco music in its purest form, with streaks of jazz, latino and rock. A concert with a generous dose of stormy flamenco dance.
