Beethoven's opus 131 belongs to his 'late string quartets', which he wrote when he was already completely deaf and shortly before he died. Russion prince Nikolaus Galitzion, a lover and admirer or Beethoven's work, commissioned them. Beethoven was only too pleased to comply and created what would be his very last string quartets (opus 127, 130 131 en 132).
Special about opus 131 is that it consits of no less than 7 movements which are played without an interval. Concentration is wanted from the listener as well as from the artists, but it makes for almost 40 minutes of the most exquisite listening!
This concert doesn't have an interval. A drink is included in the ticket price; drinks will be available in the lobby before the concert.
