Born in Hungary, Schiff began piano lessons at the age of 5, entered the conservatory 10 years later and basically the rest is history. A tremendous career made him a master pianist, to this day much in demand worldwide.
At age 26, he fled Hungary, which nationalists did not thank him for. Since that time, he has made a strong case against Hungarian rule and has not been to his homeland, either as a Hungarian or to perform there as a pianist. András Schiff received Austrian citizenship in 1987 and lives in London and Salzburg.
Aftershow: C&L Classical
Chiara Guijarro Grela and Laura van der Kloet are two bachelor students at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Tilburg. Because of their different backgrounds, they want to use their music to show how the combination of the sounds of harp and flute mix and what is possible in this combination. Chiara and Laura master a wide repertoire, from pieces from the baroque era by Bach and romantic pieces by Fauré and others to more modern compositions by Andriessen and Persichetti, among others.
