Deep, sonorous sounds that stab you in the gut and caress your soul: in the masterful hands of Bram van Sambeek and Rick Stotijn, the bassoon and the double bass finally get the leading roles they deserve. No longer cast in the role of an obedient accompanist, but dazzling as a soloist in virtuoso works from the past and present, Van Sambeek and Stotijn do not shy away from a challenge, even going so far as to experiment with rock music with their ground-breaking ensemble Orbi.

The two musicians were conferred the Dutch Music Prize for their pioneering role and unbridled efforts. This afternoon Stotijn and Van Sambeek set sail on a tantalising course. Accompanied by the bravura antics of top-class pianist Hans Eijsackers, they will present works that run criss-cross through the entire history of classical music in a quest for forgotten classics, unexpected arrangements and exotic gems. A treasure trove of musical discoveries awaits: from Bottesini’s stunning acrobatics for the double bass to Earle Hagen’s nocturnal jazz fantasies and rarely played chamber music by Tchaikovsky and Saint-Saëns.

To keep waiting times down to an absolute minimum, this concert will make use of the 'wallet-less intermission' concept. Visitors are asked to pay for their intermission drink in advance when ordering their tickets: the perfect solution for enjoying your company and your drink as long as possible!
