A journey bursting with musical adventures and fire from Crete to the heel of Italy, Sicily, Spain and back again. What happens when musicians from different Mediterranean countries introduce one another to their centuries-old musical traditions? The Flamenco Biennale and the Cello Biennale bring together three phenomenal musicians from the Mediterranean region. This musical and cultural triangle is embellished by the classical strings of the Ragazze Quartet and the rhythms of Greek and Spanish feet.

Sollima studied the cello with Giovanni Perriera and composition with his father at the Conservatorio di Palermo and went on to study at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart and the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. Sollima’s music is the product of various influences such as jazz, rock, Mediterranean folk music, minimalism and the Neapolitan Baroque era. His substantial oeuvre includes some 60 chamber music works. ‘A message conveyed with music comes across must faster than with words,’ explains the versatile Sollima. He enjoys strong ties with the Netherlands: In May of last year Job Cohen presented him with the Anner Bijlsma Award, named after the Dutch master cellist who recently passed away.

To keep waiting times down to an absolute minimum, this concert will make use of the 'wallet-less intermission' concept. Visitors are asked to pay for their intermission drink in advance when ordering their tickets: the perfect solution for enjoying your company and your drink as long as possible!
