The renowned Professor Erik Scherder shows what music does to our brain. Simply fascinating! Just listening to music, particularly if it makes us emotional, activates large, partially overlapping networks in the brain. What makes it even more interesting is that these networks are still in their development stage until you reach the age of 25. They play an extremely important role in our cognitive functions such as memory, planning, impulse control and the development of empathy. And what about the effect of music on people with brain damage or a disease like Alzheimer’s?
