An impressive ode to the tolling of the bells, all around us

Chief-conductor Dmitry Liss tops the season with one of his absolute favourites. Sergey Rachmaninoff’s The Bells is an impressive ode to the tolling of the bells that surround us all throughout our lives. From exuberant and festive jingling to threatening alarm calls: the connection to bells that we feel in the Low Countries, is equal to the one in Russia.

Rachmaninoff himself was quite enamoured with this piece. Alas, because of its imposing orchestration, it is only performed very rarely. But now, for this special occasion, the South Netherlands Philharmonic get a helping hand from the Yekaterinburg Philharmonic Choir. A true specialist, touring Europe with this masterpiece by Rachmaninoff. Also, we are privileged to host the city carillonneur of Maastricht, Frank Steijns, and a great variety of top vocalists. The composer Olga Victorova will write a brand-new piece inspired by the wondrous sounds and the unifying strengths the carillon has in both Russia and the Netherlands. Let the bells ring, for this is a festive final chord you simply cannot miss.

To keep waiting times down to an absolute minimum, this concert will make use of the 'wallet-less intermission' concept. Visitors are asked to pay for their intermission drink in advance when ordering their tickets: the perfect solution for enjoying your company and your drink as long as possible!
