Please note: this concert takes place at De Kapel (DOMUSDELA, Kanaalstraat 4 in Eindhoven). This is a different venue than usual for De Maandag van Van Meurs.
Singer-songwriters Gerrit Hüppertz and Dave Crockaert started to write songs about the roadtrips that Gerrit made through the US. They asked for help from experienced musicians Maarten Michielsen (double bass), Dirk Peeraer (dobro) and Jan Michielsen (mandoline).
Their music is impregnated with all the goodies that America has to offer: from americana about traditional bluegrass to country music. Always with an eye for recognizability and melody and with hot picking and refined close harmony for extra flavour. 2013 Saw 13 original song being put on record: When You're Gone is the name of the first-born. A career highlight was their performance at the Irish Omaghh Bluegrass festival, where they stole everyones thunder with their energetic set.
The support act will be given by the winner of the Ad van Meurs Prize 2019: Alexandra Alden
Alexandra Alden (24) is a singer from Malta, currently based in Rotterdam. Here she finished her studies at the Codarts Conservatoire. She was still young when she started writing music and poetry and only seven when she started to show a passion for singing as well. Her sense of poetry and music grew and with it a loninging to be on stage. She discovered the accustic guitar in her teens and used it to write her very first little songs.
Her curiosity and need to 'compress everything important into something simple' becomes the driving force behind Alden's exquisite songs. Her music is sometimes described as 'minimalistic folk' influenced by Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell, inspired by the warm sunshine of Malta and the influences of British heritage.
Every Monday, we present concerts with singer-songwriters, acoustic bands, rootsy performers and other gems from the music world. All this as part of a series called 'De Maandag van Van Meurs' (Van Meurs' Monday).
