New Orleans is a true piano-city and that's really convenient: there's no one in The Netherlands who knows better than Spanjers how to play the piano with that specific, rolling Sound of New Orleans. He spent time in the South of the US listening well and above all: he played and toured with the local heroes.
The NEW ORLEANS VINTAGE VOODOO PIANO LECTURE is a solo-performance with piano and singing, but it's also like a workshop in which Roel tells us about the musical and cultural meaning of the city. Important songs by illustrious artists like Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Domino and Dr. John will be highlighted.
Pianist, Hammond organplayer and singer Roel Spanjers played, recorded and toured with various artists like Luther Allison, Johan Derksen, Smokey Wilson, JW Roy, Terry Evans, Frédérique Spigt, Dayna Kurtz and Roscoe Chenier. He is also the keyboardplayer and steady bandmember of NORMAAL.
Every Monday, we present concerts with singer-songwriters, acoustic bands, rootsy performers and other gems from the music world. All this as part of a series called 'De Maandag van Van Meurs' (Van Meurs' Monday).
