At just 16 years old, Grigory Sokolov convinced the jury to award him the Gold Medal at the 1966 Tchaikovsky competition, where the First Prize often isn’t even awarded. He wasn’t an adult yet but already he made any reservations melt away.

His source of inspiration? ‘Emil Gilels, Rachmaninov, Sofronitsky, Gould, Solomon, Lipatti, Rubinstein,’ and Sokolov lives up to it. ‘One of the world’s greatest living pianists’ (The Guardian).
