‘Rhythmic fluidity in the lyrical phrases, and with a silvery tone.’ is how The Classic Review described Leif Ove Andsnes' playing of a Mozart piano concerto. Norwegian pianist Andsnes is currently in the middle of his Mozart-Momentum 1785/86 project, reflecting one of Mozart's most creative periods. Tonight, we hear Andsnes in Mozart's 22nd piano concerto (K482). It'll be special and..... silvery!

It's been 75 snce since the founding of the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, which has its home in the Berliner Philharmonie venue. This anniversary is the crown on a carreer in which the orchestra worked a great numver of famous conductors like Ferenc Fricsay, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Chailly, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Kent Nagano.

Beethoven's third Symphony 'Eroica' is a very suitable work to celebrate an anniversary. It was initially composed to honour Napoleon for whom Beethoven had enormous admiration. But when Napoleon had himself crowned emperor, Beethoven found: 'he too is but an ordinary human being', striked most of his dedication to Napoleon and made it more generally "Heroic symphony, composed to celebrate the memory of a great man". This symphony contains perhaps one of the most grandiose funeral marches in the history of music.

This concert was originally planned with a different programme.
