A few weeks ago we were happy to announce Naked Song Festival: the developments around corona looked good and organizing a small-scale festival was within the possibilities. Unfortunately, it turns out that it is very difficult at this time to make plans for the future.

In the current situation, we cannot allow Naked Song Festival to take place in a way that suits the festival. Intimate songs should be experienced with each other and not with a large distance from each other. That is why we had to make the difficult decision not to look for new forms, but to cancel the festival on Friday 10 December. We are committed to a Naked Song Festival in better and safer times and hope you understand this choice.

Fink (acoustic duo)

It has now been about fifteen years since Fin Greenall aka Fink made the fairly rigorous transition from electronically oriented music to acoustic guitar songs. That fact also immediately illustrates his versatility, because the Brit who currently lives in Berlin is not the stereotypical singer-songwriter. His work contains influences from soul, blues, funk, jazz and folk, among others, in which he deftly navigates between subdued moments, rousing passages and more atmospheric sounds.

Novastar (solo)

Joost Zweegers alias Novastar and Eindhoven go way back. The singer and songwriter, who was born in the Netherlands, but who has lived in Belgium for years, lived in Eindhoven for several years. Here he wrote the song 'Wrong', with which he scored his first big hit in 1999. He is now ready for his sixth album with 'Holler And Shout'. For the recordings he went to Brighton to work there again with producer and musical soulmate Mikey Rowe. Memories go back to his performance at Naked Song 2014. Just like then, it promises to be a magical evening with the melodic and slightly melancholic pop songs of Novastar.

This Is The Kit

This Is The Kit is Kate Stables' nom de plume. The British singer-songwriter, who operates from Paris, named her first album 'Krulle Bol' in 2008. A funny title, especially for the work of a non-Dutch speaking artist. She has now completed five albums, with 'Off Off On' (October 2020) as the latest addition to the quintet of long players. A more than successful successor to the critically acclaimed 'Moonshine Freeze' (2017) that makes you eagerly await her show on Naked Song.

Mooneye (solo)

Anyone who has heard Michiel Libberecht alias Mooneye sing will not easily forget it. Listen, for example, to 'Thinking About Leaving', the song with which Mooneye became the winner of the Nieuwe Lichting of Studio Brussel in 2019, and you are sure to go for the axe. Mooneye's debut album 'Big Enough' is now a fact, which makes it clear that in addition to making beautiful songs, Mooneye also has the rare property of being able to appeal to a wide music-loving audience. So it becomes old-fashioned pushing in front of the stage when Libberecht performs these gems during Naked Song.

Benedict

Benedict debuted this year with the album You Can Tell Me Nothing That I Should, a carefully curated autobiographical artwork. Elements of Tindersticks, Nick Cave and The National are interwoven into a unique sound of pronounced drum parts, cinematic lyrics and sometimes hectic synths and guitar parts, enriched with strings and wind ensembles. The Popronde act and OOR Talent have already received national media attention - with airplay on 3FM, KINK and NPO Radio 2 and interviews in national newspapers such as Parool and Telegraaf -, but various international media have now also focused on the Amsterdam act. . Leo Blokhuis called Benedict 'an asset to Dutch music'. Don't miss out on one of the first opportunities to see this surprising newcomer live.

Robin Kester

Robin Kester attracted the attention of a number of national media early on, as radio program Met Het Oog Op Morgen called her one of the promises of 2019. Following the release of the mini album 'This Is Not A Democracy' in September 2020, Robin Kester almost the entire national press in the pen or climbed on the soapbox to draw the public's attention to this new talent. The follow-up to EP 'Peel The Skin' is a dreamy, luscious production that is inspired by 1970s pop and references Sufjan Stevens' enigmatic lullabies, Cate Le Bon's indie pop, Beach House's dream pop and the mesmerizing beauty of Weyes Blood.

Alexandra Alden

Alexandra Alden, from Malta, already had two number one singles in Malta to her name at the age of eighteen. It is therefore not surprising that she was asked to be a jury member of the TV program X Factor. Her debut album 'Wild Honey' (2018) was released in 2018, on which she discusses universal subjects such as love, loss and nature. Her songs are characterized by a hint of Mediterranean mysticism and poetry, but are at the same time worldly or even raw. At the beginning of 2020, she was the second Maltese artist ever to represent her country at the European showcase festival ESNS. With her folk, inspired by Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell, with a touch of Mediterranean roots, she is a welcome addition to the bill.

Iris Penning

Iris Penning makes poetic pop, with which she invites you to her brain pub. Work from her most recent album 'Liever Vieze Voeten' (2019) can be heard (or has been) on many radio stations and appears in various Spotify playlists. “Spinvis nods in agreement, Ramses Shaffy and Maarten van Roozendaal see from above that it is all right. Cherish that record", wrote leading music magazineOOR about that album. The musician is also City Poet of Eindhoven, so after shows in Paradiso, Oerol and many other theater festivals and pop venues, Naked Song is of course a dream place to play in her own city. For this performance she is assisted by cellist Mirthe de Jonge, who adds extra shine to Penning's verbal virtuosity and guitar strumming with her stylish strings.

About Naked Song

Personal stories by songwriters who move you, cheer you up, make you think or otherwise touch you. Face to face, one-on-one with the artist, up close they get under your skin.

That is Naked Song, the singer-songwriter program of Muziekgebouw Eindhoven that takes place throughout the city throughout the year. At 'Naked Song presents...' you can see your favorite artists on a familiar stage, or discover new music in a surprising place. Think of a traditional singer-songwriter in a cozy café or intimate chapel, an upcoming act in say the Muziekgebouw, or a rootsy artist in an atmospheric city garden. With 'Naked Song festival' we unpack and you will see a series of artists at various locations in the Muziekgebouw.

Brought according to the 'less is more' principle, and then again exuberant and compelling. Sometimes a special evening is put together around a specific theme with carefully selected musicians, other times a series of artists grows into a nice poster for a festival. Whatever form, in the basics the songs remain central.
