When it comes to Motown legends, it doesn't get any bigger or better than multi-platinum selling artists The Temptations and The Four Tops.
The Temptations were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999, and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in February 2013. Thanks to their harmonies, a parade of hits and stylish choreography, The Temptations became an impressive vocal group in 1960. A group that showcased both lush pop and politically charged funk. The Temptations had many successes including My Girl, I Can't Get Next to You, Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me), and Papa Was a Rollin' Stone. Still led by original member Otis Williams, The Temptations celebrated another major milestone with the release of Temptations 60 (2022).
The story of The Four Tops begins in high school, where they joined forces and became a huge success partly because of their togetherness. For more than four decades they performed without changing the band members and in between became a top-tier act on a label with no shortage of talent, ranking with and as the most consistent hitmakers. Where many other R&B vocal groups spotlighted a tenor, The Four Tops were led by a deep voice, which had all the grit of a gospel-trained soul belter. But The Four Tops' creamy harmonies, filled out by Duke Fakir, Obie Benson, and Lawrence Payton, were fluid enough for the pop-soul productions of the 1960s.
Muziekgebouw Eindhoven can't wait to welcome The Temptations & The Four Tops!
