This ensemble is offering a programme of piano quartets featuring works from both the classical and romantic era. Mozart's quartet seems to be moving in the direction of romanticism already: a soulful work. Fauré's work - quite an early one - represents French chambermusic of the 19th century. Brahms' quartet was written in two stages: one while he was still quite young - all Sturm und Drang in style and influenced by Schumann's tragic life - and one when he was a bit older and more calm. In his later years, Brahms often brushed the dust off his earlier work to reuse it. This is how you get romantic music in its true sense in a classical and more compact context.

Pianist Nikolai Lugansky and his three colleagues are all well known musicians at the top of the international scene. With this programme of piano quartets, they bring the very best of this genre!
