Rembrandt Frerichs & de Staalmeesters
Pianist and composer Rembrandt Frerichs (1977) started a new musical adventure when violist Michael Gieler (Concertgebouw Orchestra) commissioned him that eventually became Rembrandt's Piano Concerto no. 1.

Frerich's concerto shows us that classical music and jazz are a lot closer to each other than we thought. Both Mozart and Beethoven performed their own concertos without a written score; this is how the grand masters used to do it. Performances like this become an experience of tailor-made music suitable for the individual soloist. No two concerts are the same.

The listener experiences a musical battle between ensemble and piano; an exciting ritual dance of two. A new direction is being taken: improv-musician Rembrandt and the classical musicians merging the best of both worlds. Like the grand masters, the composer himself plays the solo part.
