That Bach's St. Matthew Passion always stirs up a lot of emotions is beyond dispute. Cellist Pablo Casals was once asked if he agreed that the St. Matthew Passion is the greatest work in the history of music. He replied, "I agree with that a thousand times over."

And so are many important musicians who regard Bach's magnum opus as an undisputed high point. For a number of years, Masato Suzuki has led the Bach Collegium Japan. As a conductor, harpsichordist, organist and composer, he is even more versatile than his father Masaaki, also associated with the world-famous ensemble. Reason enough to invite Masato to conduct the annual performances of Bach's St Matthew Passion.
