What effect does Van Gogh have on you? The Nederlands Kamerkoor presents an overwhelming audio-visual spectacle in which paintings by Vincent van Gogh and Gustav Klimt come to life in response to the fascinating music of Debussy, Mahler (Gustav and Alma!), Schoenberg and others. Specially developed logorithms were taught the painting technique and use of color of Van Gogh and Klimt in order to respond live to the powerful sounds of the Nederlands Kamerkoor and to the emotional experiences of both singers and audience. The result: a breathtaking performance in which the boundaries between music, image, artist and audience disappear. Synesthesia of the highest order.

In Van Gogh and me, the NKK guides the audience through the world of the fin de siècle at the end of the 19th century. The world of Van Gogh, Klimt, Debussy, Satie and the others: an eventful era of new discoveries, global upheaval and rapid change. The audience tonight not only gets an impression of the zeitgeist of Europe then but also strongly experiences the similarities with the Europe of today. In collaboration with the Italian audiovisual studio fuse*, the NKK developed a step back in time and a glimpse into the future.
