'O rose red...' that sung melody of Urlicht blossoms from the depths of the soul. Tender string sounds embrace the lone singing voice. Velvety, rising and falling trumpets connect earth and sky.

'O rose red...' that sung melody of Urlicht blossoms from the depths of the soul. The choir performs this music from Mahler's Resurrection Symphony a cappella, setting the stage for this comforting concert programme. Honorary conductor Ed Spanjaard conducts two requiems that offer a different perspective on life. Tawfiq's Requiem des Fleurs et des Nuages is a hymn to life, in which it is not the fear of death that rules, but a world full of nature and lush clouds. 'As if to emphasise that the soul of his sensuous, sparklingly orchestrated work is fluid and transcends earthly boundaries,' says NRC. And Fauré's Requiem, one of THE most loved death masses. In Fauré's own words, 'A very human sense of hope and peace.'
