The piano soloist hits a chord right, a bass note left, carelessly at first, but increasingly intensely, culminating in, 'Yes, that glowing string melody...' Rachmaninov's unmistakable Second Piano Concerto. It is etched in our collective memory. 'His interplay between spiritual calm and deep empathy is gripping,' wrote the Washington Post about pianist Boris Giltburg. This Piano Concerto is one of his body pieces. His recording of it even received a place of honour in the Grammophon top 10 'Rachmaninov recordings'. After this piano feast, our guest conductor Jun Märkl gives wings to Stravinsky's Song of the Nightingale and the thrilling Firebird.
