Rising mists, darkened sun, glittering glaciers, storms and thunderstorms... Let yourself be transported to symphonic heights in Eine Alpensimfonie by Richard Strauss. The composer who became famous with tone poems like Don Juan and Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche was a musical master storyteller. He wrote this Alpine Symphony in his composition room with panoramic views of the majestic mountain landscape. In twenty-two evocative, musical scenes, he takes you on an adventurous mountain climb, from sunrise to evening.

Eine Alpensimfonie challenges orchestra and conductor to the highest reaches of their abilities. Before the interval, chief conductor Duncan Ward conducts the European premiere of a horn concerto written especially for Philzuid. Horn soloist is Ben Goldschneider, described by BBC Music Magazine as "a young man of timeless talent.
