With which music could Jules van Hessen bid farewell to 'his' Philips Symphony Orchestra after 35 years better than with Mahler's Third Symphony? In the monumental Third Symphony, Mahler sings about all stages of evolution. With themes such as summer, flowers, animals, humans, angels, and God's love, it's not surprising that the work received the nickname 'The Nature Symphony'. Mahler succeeded excellently in shaping his vision: "This symphony should be like this world, it must encompass everything."
With its approximately 110 minutes, this symphony is one of the longest pieces in the concert repertoire. The splendid, orchestral Adagio with which the symphony concludes, celebrating love, provides exactly the additional emotional weight that this farewell deserves for Jules.
This concert is part of the For the Love of Music project. Club life is an important social-cultural engine of our society. We think this is important and therefore we are happy to make our halls available to anyone who loves music: creators, artists and musicians from Eindhoven and the region.
