Sibelius’ beautiful violin concerto appears to have sprouted from the rugged Finish landscape where the composer wrote his music, in a log cabin on the banks of Lake Järvenpëë. One could simply not imagine a better person to interpret this work than star violinist Janine Jansen. With her expressive playing she is able to bring this music to life with every note she plays. Spurred by his lofty ideals, Beethoven dedicated his Third Symphony to Napoleon. Disappointed, he would later withdraw the commission. Nevertheless, it is through this symphony that he opened the doors to a new era.
