  • Tijs Klaassen Quintet

    Open improvisation meets classical sounds
    Blue Note ClubSessions
    Sat 11 May ’24

Tijs Klaassen is a name to remember. Over the past few years, the bassist has become a prominent figure in the Dutch jazz scene. His own band embodies his creative approach to a traditional jazz quintet lineup. The band's sound allows plenty of room for improvisation, but at times, it also draws inspiration from the sounds of classical composers like Theo Loevendie, Ravel, and Alban Berg. Arco bass melodies, woodwind instruments, and the use of electronics all come together in the ensemble's distinctive sound. Each band member is deeply involved in the creative process in their own way, resulting in a very unique group sound.

With a lineup of drums, bass guitar, guitar, and Hammond, a three-piece brass section, and the powerful vocals of frontwoman Roxanne, the band stands strong. On January 26th, they released their brand-new album, 'Keep It To Yourself,' exuding the authentic Tibbs sound. For this album, the band drew inspiration from classic soul labels like Stax and Motown, as well as the New Orleans soul of Irma Thomas and Betty Harris.

  • Tess Merlot

    Chanteuse of the Netherlands
    Blue Note ClubSessions
    Sat 21 Sep ’24

She formed the band Tess et les Moutons, and hundreds of shows later, every performance still revolves around the essence: bringing the human soul to the surface as only the French chanson can. For her second album 'Chante la vie,' she searched for words and melodies to express new changes in her life. The disappearance of the parental home and the connection to childhood, the loss of a loved one, and the transience of friendships. But also the positive aspects of personal growth, the evolution of a long-lasting love, and the realization that, once adults, we continue to take leaps into the unknown.
