In 2022, the Eka & Edu Duo was founded by Ekaterina Uvarova (Russia) and Eduardo Villarroel Mera (Spain), who met while pursuing their Master's Degrees at Fontys University in the Netherlands. Despite their diverse backgrounds, they share a passion for music and the unique combination of guitar and clarinet. The duo explores unconventional sonic colors and performs specially composed repertoire for their instruments. The duo embraces contemporary music experiments and collaborates with Dutch composer Maurick Reuser, resulting in an award-winning composition for guitar and clarinet at the International competition "The Time of the Guitar."

Ekaterina Uvarova, a rising star among Russian classical guitarists, completed her Master's Degree in the Netherlands under the guidance of Professor Johan Fostier at Fontys (Tilburg). She holds a scholarship supported by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science and FHK. In 2022, she gained admission to The Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, expanding her musical horizons to Early Music on the lute and theorbo. Ekaterina boasts a list of awards, including the Dutch Guitar Foundation Competition (2022), and has performed at prestigious venues like Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven and the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow. She has also honed her skills through masterclasses with renowned figures in the classical guitar world.

Eduardo Villarroel-Mera, a Spanish clarinetist, holds multiple music degrees and is pursuing his second Master's degree in the Netherlands under the tutelage of clarinetists Eddy Vanoosthuyse and Henri Bok at Fontys (Tilburg). He has contributed to professional orchestras, including the Concertgebouworkest and the Dutch Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, Opera Zuid in Maastricht, and the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (BOS). Eduardo has had the privilege of learning from esteemed clarinetists through various masterclasses, further enriching his musical journey.
