Drawing for Freedom at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven in collaboration with Warchild

Tue 21 Jun ’22

Tuesday 21st June marked the kick-off of a new project called Drawing for Freedom. This project places primary schools, based in an array of Eindhoven's different area's, at its core.

With Drawing for Freedom, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven launched the first edition of a new project collaborating with primary schools based in neighbourhoods that could do with some extra attention. Fitting this framework, concerts will be organized twice a year. Muziekgebouw Eindhoven firmly believes in the power of music and aimes at involving as many children from different backgrounds and cultures as possible.

Drawing
School children were asked to make a drawing in relation to the chosen theme: Freedom. All drawings were edited into an animated film, which was shown on a giant screen in the Main Hall to an audience of 600 pupils and their teachers and parents, accompanied by music from the band Fuse.

Warchild
Each time, concerts in this project - taking place twice yearly - are teamed up with an organization that has a link with the world of children. For this first edition the organization was Warchild. Through this project Muziekgebouw Eindhoven annually reaches thousands of local primary school children. By joining forces with schools and specialized cultural organisations Muziekgebouw Eindhoven would like to contribute to the livability of the city as well as to improve the involvement of the youngest generation of Eindhoven.

Interactive
Special guest on 21st June was Zuhoor Tolou (36), himself a refugee from Afghanistan who came to Holland when he was thirteen and still lives and works in Eindhoven today. He told the children in the audience his personal story. The concert was followed by an event where children and teachers participated in an interactive interview around the chosen theme (Freedom). Thus an opportunity was created for everyone to reflect, learn from each other's visions and share experiences.
