Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was in part named after his godfather George Philipp Telemann, with whom he maintained a lively correspondence and a close relationship. His father Johann Sebastian is also on this evening's programme of cantata fragments and sonatas, brought by soprano Dorothee Mields and recorder player Stefan Temmingh.

She: one of the most acclaimed voices in 17th and 18th-century repertoire, equally at home in large orchestral and opera productions as in delicate song recitals. He: the visionary musician who made the recorder hip again. German soprano Dorothee Mields and South African virtuoso Stefan Temmingh have formed a successful team for several years now. From Italian baroque opera to Telemann cantatas to music whispered by mellifluous fauna (see the album Birds), the duo generously shares the most enticing repertoire gems and most stunning discoveries.
