Pieter van Loenen, Dana Zemtsov, Laura van der Heijden, and Alexander Ullman: how many young top talents can fit into one ensemble? Four musicians, each with a stunning solo career you may have heard individually, now come together in chamber music. Mozart's Piano Quartet in E-flat, KV493, is a piece almost too grand for chamber music; the work of the Frenchman Chausson is less known but truly deserves more frequent performances.

Imagine receiving a letter from your publisher demanding a more popular style of composition, or else no payment. That's what Mozart faced. His response? 'Then I'll earn nothing and the devil will take me.' Mozart wrote exactly as he pleased; a good standard to follow. Interestingly, his publisher was mistaken because Mozart's two piano quartets quickly became very successful. While his colleague Paul Dukas praised Chausson's piano quartet as 'one of his greatest works,' Chausson himself didn't get much joy from it. Although the premiere in 1897 was a success, Chausson tragically died in a cycling accident before the piece gained widespread recognition in the music world.
