Youth Guitar Spectacle
Time & MotionBRIDGE Guitar FestivalFri 31 May ’24‘Art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time.’ This beautiful, insightful remark by artist Jean-Michel Basquiat seamlessly aligns with the theme of the BRIDGE Youth Guitar spectacle. 'Time & Motion' is indeed the fundamental concept behind the concert, which - as the title suggests - promises nothing less than to be spectacular. 120 young guitarists will perform alongside a large orchestra at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. This spectacle is under the direction of guitarist and conductor Peter Constant, who, along with the musicians, delves into the central theme. Time and motion have long been sources of inspiration for music throughout the ages. Think of rhythm, dynamics, but also the silence between the notes. Especially when you're on stage with so many musicians, the aspects of 'time and motion' during this spectacle demand extra focus and attention.

Cocobolo
BRIDGE AROUND TOWNBRIDGE Guitar FestivalFri 31 May ’24Cocobolo sounds like the more candid variant of Khruangbin, with fine surf influences and delightful guitar parts. You could also rightfully mention Orions Belte, Jungle by Night, and BADBADNOTGOOD in the same breath as this trio. But, as it goes with references, comparing them to those other bands is quite limiting. Because Cocobolo is more than that. They create a mix of old-school funk, psychedelic rock guitars, and surf guitars with a retro sound.

John Ghost
BRIDGE AROUND TOWNBRIDGE Guitar FestivalFri 31 May ’24The Belgian John Ghost (named after the band's leader, guitarist Jo de Geest) makes music like an adventurous journey: one that you cannot rush. A trip that requires time. A journey during which you will experience moments that may sometimes be difficult to digest, but which ultimately pay off enormously. A trip that teaches you things. Along the way you will encounter Jaga Jazzist. And Frank Zappa. Battles too. Even Steve Reich is one of the fellow passers-by. 'John Ghost is constantly looking for new sounds. Intoxicating, dreamy soundscapes are constantly alternated with rhythmic patterns, as they describe it themselves. John Ghost is a band that takes you into their universe and doesn't let go easily.

Aure
BRIDGE AROUND TOWNBRIDGE Guitar FestivalSat 1 Jun ’24When Aure takes the stage, it's time for stillness. For attention. And for music that takes you to a dream landscape. With her deep, sultry voice, French Aure inevitably evokes thoughts of greats like Nico or Françoise Hardy. She sings about her doubts and love confronted with time, in direct lyrics that she delivers as emotional snapshots, without adornment. The stripped-down production, mainly with guitar and voice, emphasizes that directness, like a contemporary Nick Drake, or more recently Big Thief, Mariee Sioux, and also Jeff Buckley. On her acoustic guitar, Aure finds beautiful chord progressions that form a fine carpet for her unique voice.

Cloud Cafe
BRIDGE AROUND TOWNBRIDGE Guitar FestivalSat 1 Jun ’24Some terms used to describe music don't really capture the essence. In the case of Cloud Cafe, the term 'grungefolk' does indeed get you quite a bit in the right direction. The quartet, led by guitarist/vocalist Tara Wilts, creates melancholic songs with a raw edge. The band's tracks, signed by Excelsior Recordings – a notable stamp of approval – evoke comparisons to the likes of Mazzy Star and Big Thief. Additionally, Wilts draws inspiration from artists such as Neil Young, Laura Marling, and Molly Drake (yes, Nick's mother). "Tender and dreamy songs that fill the room and make it sway," as described by 3voor12 in a review of their performance at Paradiso. During BRIDGE AROUND TOWN, they fill M with their delightful 'musical microcosm of everyday chaos and melancholy.'

Award-winning guitarist plays Paganini & RodrigoBRIDGE Guitar FestivalSun 2 Jun ’24The world's smallest orchestra, it is called. The guitar! Because this modest instrument can produce an enormous variety of sounds. It lends a voice to every mood. Today we start with music from Spain, a country that has shaped the guitar like no other. Spirit, passion, wistful melodies by way of Albeniz and Rodrigo, known for the famous Concierto d'Aranjuez. Then we cross over to Italy. The guitar conveys the Italian 'bel canto' (literally: beautiful singing) in the best possible way.

Mark Lettieri & Metropole Orkest
Guitarist of Snarky PuppyBRIDGE Guitar FestivalSun 2 Jun ’24Mark Lettieri, guitarist of the Grammy Award-winning jazz fusion band Snarky Puppy, and the sublime Metropole Orkest: it's a combination that already looks great on paper, not to mention how it must sound live in full glory at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven during BRIDGE Guitar Festival. Mark Lettieri is one of the grooviest, funkiest, adventurous, and at the same time, pleasing-to-the-ear guitarists of the moment. His star has been rising for years. In that upward curve, there is now a beautiful provisional peak during his show at the BRIDGE Guitar Festival with the Metropole Orkest.

Fabrizio Paterlini
For fans of Nils Frahm, Joep Beving, and HauschkaSound & SilenceTue 4 Jun ’24The music of Italian composer and pianist Fabrizio Paterlini can be categorized into various genres, including neoclassical, ambient, new age, and minimal. However, what might be more fitting are the adjectives commonly used to describe his music: airy, sensitive, emotional, dreamy, delicate, and passionate. Paterlini himself characterizes his music as "a glass of red wine on a summer evening," emphasizing the calming effect it has on listeners. In October 2023, he released his new album 'Riverscape,' inspired by the flows, rhythms, and stories carried by water. Critics describe the work as emotional, ethereal, and notably passionate.
